| Power of Chanting in Kali Yuga |
Naamasankeertana is the best and good method of
reaching self-motivation and spiritual guidance towards god.
Chanting the name and glory of the almighty with devotion,
dedication and discipline the devotee gets peacefulness to
mind and body. By chanting gods name with dedication one can
surrender himself to god and lead to Bhakthi Path.
With the Lord’s name in mind and soul, we can reach his heart.
Give yourself to God every opportunity you get, and he will
fulfill all your desires.
“tatrarpita niyamita smarane na kalah”
There are no restrictions (niyamas) for chanting the Lord's
name. Neither must one take consideration of the time or
circumstances; all you need is full dedication to him. When
chanting god’s name, one need not observe Pranayama, Anganyasa,
Karanyasa, Bhuta Sudhi etc.,
In Shrimad Bhagawatam, Sri Krishna has advised his devotee,
“Namaparate Sadhan Sarvatha Nahi
An Name Bhavabandhan Chhedana
Satya Jan Uddhava”
There is no other tool like namasmaranam which gives
peacefulness to mind and body.
‘Manthra’ is a Sanskrit word, ‘Man’ means “mind”, and ‘thra’
means “to deliver”. Thus a ‘Manthra’ will finally leads you to
spirituality of mind and body. It is echo of sounds from your
inner self.
If you cannot chant Manthra always, you can repeat the Shirdi
Saibaba’s name in which way you call him and Pray him (ex.
Rama, Krishna). But you must realize in the heart, the ‘Name’
and the ‘Manthra’ has same power. The most important thing is
concentration which you should have in your heart and mind.
Your tongue should proclaim the great Manthra or the Name even
while you are eating, sleeping, standing or sitting, do it and
you will find great pleasure and happiness. If you find time
go to a quiet place, sit and chant the name. You will find
your heart’s treasure in front of your eyes and everywhere.
If you want to get your self-immersed in Guru, do not consider
other things just chant his name. As long as you do it, you
will always feel the love and warmth of Baba.
When we sing the name of the Lord, our mind should dwell only
on the thoughts of the Lord. By doing so we derive ultimate
joy forgetting the pain.
Naama Sankeertana induces in you a desire for experiencing the
truth, to glimpse the beauty of the God, taste the Bliss that
is the Self. By knowing ones self, he can reach the desired
path and by doing so he can recognize the almighty.
The Shastras and Saints speak in unison about the potency of
'Lord’s' name; so, if any one wishes to make much spiritual
advancement, let him not forget the name. Name alone will
bring all kinds of happiness and Siddhis.
Chanting the sacred name of god starts from beginning of the
evolution of earth. According to Hindu mythology all the
things are created and contained in the voice of "aum".
Describing the glory of god by chanting his different names is
followed in hindu religion.
Bhagavata Puranam describes 9 kinds of devotional worship,
they are:
SRAVANA (Listening to divine glories or names)
KIRTANA (Singing the glories of the Lord)
SMARANA (Remembering)
PADA SEVA (Worshipping feet)
ARCHANA (Offering flowers or kumkum or Akshata or Tulasi or
Bhilva leaves or water or milk while chanting God's names)
VANDANA (Offering salutation)
DASYA (Being a servant of the Lord)
SAKHYA (Being friend of the Lord)
ATMA NIVEDHANA (Total surrender)
Sankeerthana is of four kinds: 1) Guna sankeethana 2) Leela
sankeerthana
3) Bhaava sankeerthana 4) Naama sankeerthana.
Guna sankeerthana : applies to the kind of bhajan in which the
devotee recites the auspicious qualities of the Divine,
experiences oneness with the Divine, and acquires the Godly
qualities
Leel sankeerthanas: like Thyaagaraaja recounted the great
qualities of God in his songs.
Bhaava sankeerthana: Raadha, who expresses her different
feelings towards God and identifies herself with the Divine in
every mood of devotion.
Naama sankeerthana: The 'Om Sai Sri Sai Jaya Jaya Sai' is a
nama-manthra, a mantra composed only of the Lord's names.
The nama-mantras are the Lord's special mercy to the fallen
souls of the Kali-yuga. Those of us with no proper spiritual
qualification can still attain the Lord and associate with Him
through His divine name. In this present age of Kali-yuga, it
is especially recommended that chant. It is described in the
shastras that this hari-nama-sankirtana is the yuga-dharma
(religious process) for this age:
krite yad dhyayato vishnum
tretayam yajato makhaih
dvapare paricaryayam
kalau tad dhari-kirtanat
"Whatever result was obtained in Satya-yuga by meditating on
Vishnu, in Treta-yuga by performing sacrifices, and in
Dvapara-yuga by serving the Lord's lotus feet can be obtained
in Kali-yuga simply by chanting the names of Sri Hari."
Kali-yuga is an ocean of faults, but we can rectify it simply
by chanting Lord’s names. One can become free from all
difficulties of life and find his way to the Lord’s feet.
The ‘Upanishad’ instructs us as follows: "The Hare Krishna
maha-mantra, composed of 16 names and 32 syllables, is the
only means to countract the evil-effects of Kali-yuga. In all
the ‘Vedas’ it has been proved there is no alternative to
tchanting of the Lord's holy names to overcome the
difficulties of the life."
Everyone knows life requires good health. Proper diet,
adequate exercise, and sufficient rest are necessary to keep
our bodies strong and fit. If we neglect these things, we
become weak. If we ignore our spirituality we tend to other
unnecessary qualities.
We can attain spiritual perfection by chanting lords name in
whichever way we can without offending others. We can do this
by singing songs, reciting Vedas and mantras. Anyone can chant
lords name the important thing is to offer yourself to god and
let him hear your words. By doing so you will attain ultimate
‘moksha’ and can see the result of the fruitfulness.
In another section, Srimad Bhagavatam says, "yatastadvishayAmapi"
meaning when one keeps repeating the name of a thing, one
develops affection for that name.
The chanting of Lord’s name, anyone can take part in the
chanting without any previous qualification. When the mantra
is chanted by pure devotee of the Lord in love, it has the
greatest efficacy on hearers, and as such this chanting should
be heard from the lips of a pure devotee of the Lord, so that
immediate effects can be achieved.
The Chanting of God’s name is very powerful, it helps always.
When hiranya-kasipu asks prahlAda as to what is the best
lesson he learned in school, Sri prahlada replies:
"Sravanam kirtanam vishno: smaranam
pada-sevanam |
arcanam vandanam dasyam sakyam Atma-nivedanam
||
iti pumsarpita vishnau
bhaktiscen-nava-lakshana |
kriyate bhagavatyaddha tanmanye'dhitamuttamam
||"
Meaning: Prahlada says: "I consider as the best lesson, worthy
of learning, is the nine characteristic forms a man practises
his devotion to Lord Vishnu, Sravanam, kirtanam, smaranam,
pada-sevanam, vandanam, archanam, dasyam, sakhyam,
Atma-nivedanam"
Even though God helps through ‘sadgurus’, one should attain
their own spiritualness by chanting the Lord’s name with
complete dedication and surrenderence.
